Theme: Data Protection Act Compliance – An Imperative for a Vibrant Digital Economy

Upperlink Limited in partnership with Bureau of Information Communication Technology (BICT) Ogun State, Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the Ogun State government proudly hosted a highly influential workshop on data protection laws in Nigeria at the MITROS Banquet Hall Abeokuta. The workshop brought together industry leaders and Top Government officials to share invaluable insights on safeguarding data in the digital age.

Event Highlights

Opening remark by the special advisor on ICT: In her opening remarks, the Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on ICT Dayo Abiodun who also represented the Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun commended Upperlink initiative in on our work and partnership with the government over the years and highlighted the crucial role of technology in our society. He emphasized the position of data protection as a new currency and direction of focus which should be on commitment to continuous updating of security protocols and developing and deploying scalable solutions to meet existing and emerging needs.

Keynote Address by the National Commissioner of the Data Protection Commission: The National Commissioner of NDPA Dr Vincent Olatunji delivered a powerful keynote, emphasizing the critical importance of data protection in today's digital landscape. He described Data protection as not just a legal obligation but a moral duty. The purpose of which is to ensure personal and sensitive information is handled with the utmost care and integrity. Compliance with data protection laws safeguards individuals' privacy and builds trust in our digital systems.

While welcoming everyone to the event, the Director of IT, Bureau of Information Communication Technology (BICT) Ogun state, Mrs Olatundun Adekunte appreciated Upperlink for this impactful initiative.

Digitalization in the Public Sector: Delivered by Opeyemi Oni, Director of Business and Foreign operations at Upperlink Limited explored the role of digital transformation in public sectors as well as systems in place today that greatly enhance digitalization in both the public and private sector.
